Description

Ideally suited to those coming to Uluru with their camera, first and foremost this is a tour focused on Landscape photography offering photographers of all levels the opportunity to capture the broad vistas of Uluru and Kata Tjuta at sunrise and sunset, up close juxtaposed with the desert landscape on the many walks available in the park, capturing the changing light across the landscape from high above out of the open doors of a helicopter*, and some unique timely night images of Bruce Munro’s Field of Light installation before it concludes in 2020^.

While on location, you will be tutored on the techniques and compositions to help you capture the superlative landmarks, natural landscape, flora and sometimes fauna, and there is plenty of time to critique some of your images and do some post processing.

Uluru has so much to offer photographers like you, but we don’t just want you to take away memorable images from your tour. We want you to experience the parks cultural heritage as well, so there will be plenty of interpretative commentary introducing you to Anangu culture and the Tjukurpa stories associated with Uluru and opportunity to learn about the natural formation of these geological phenomenon.

As such, you will find this tour is also ideal for non-photographers who can enjoy being guided through the park by a fully accredited Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park Guide.

Our charter helicopter flight will be booked for sunrise or sunset depending on availability, weather conditions and on those interested in the group. If Sunset flights are selected, this will mean missing a land based sunset session, however, the experience of a sunset flight is highly recommended.  Flight services are provided by Ayers Rock Helicopters based in Yulara. You will be required to have a secure camera neck strap to participate in the flight.  Prior to flying, we will help go through techniques and settings to ensure you can capture some stunning images from the air. Flight costs depend on the number of passengers and can average approx AUD310 per person when there are 3 passengers on board.  Costs are based on total Engine time and our usual flights can run for 50 minutes. You are responsible for paying for your flight before the flight commences so please ensure you bring an adequate means of payment (credit/debit card or cash). Please select this option when booking on this tour so we can check availability and pricing.

Please Do Not Climb – Wanyu Ulurunya tatintja wiyangku wantima

As Piranpa Tour Guides, we want you to have an enjoyable visit to UKTNP in a safe environment, respecting the natural beauty and cultural significance of the park and taking the opportunity to learn about Anangu, the world’s oldest living culture and Tjukurpa.  For this reason, we are happy to support the closure of the climb from October 26th 2019 and ask that you respect the cultural, environmental and safety reasons why the climb has been closed.

^Bruce Munro’s Field of Light

Bruce Munro’s incredible Field of Light installation at Uluru has been extended several times due to its popularity but is now set to conclude in 2020 so this is the last year where the unique images of Uluru against a foreground of 500,000 fibre optically connected glass spheres can be captured.  Field of Light is organised by Ayers Rock Resort, and we recommend purchasing a Field of Light Star Pass giving you access to the view atop the sand dunes which costs approximately AUD90 and includes bus transfers, canapes and alcoholic beverages. Alternatively a general access Field of Light Pass gives you access to the Field of Light only (without dune access or the canapes and drinks).  Bookings are subject to availability on your date. Please select this option when booking on this tour so we can pre-book your place.

Cultural and Sensitive Sites – miil-miilpa ngura

Throughout our journey around UKTNP, there are a number of cultural and sensitive sites where photography is not permitted.  At any time we are approaching or viewing a sensitive site, we will remind you that there is no photography allowed at that site, and where appropriate help guide you on how to capture your images of Uluru while respecting Anangu culture, law and sensitivities.
