Let's talk about THAT Sunset!!
Arriving at Lincolns Rock with tour guest in tow, I could see the beams of sunlight bursting from beneath a fast moving cloud cap, as the sun did its best to outrun it. I told my guest we were in for a stunning display. The unique geography and altitude of this place making for some exciting weather at the best of times, and this was to be no exception. As the sun set, continuing to cast its warming healing glow into the valley floor below until the colours changed to that deep orange, golden hour to sunset, beating away the cloud as it put on a show for all to see.

I have recently had to question why I am staying in the Blue Mountains, but sights like this provide an answer in a timely way.

Look at that Smile 😁 Finding Leopard Seals hauled out basking in the sunshine on a snowy shoreline is an exciting encounter, especially when they show you that mouth full of teeth perfect for grabbing seabirds and penguins. Evidence of why they are considered such veracious predators 🦭

The Snowy Sheathbill is a bird you commonly see ar

The Snowy Sheathbill is a bird you commonly see around Antarctica. Known for their diet of Penguin poop, they take on the rather less flattering moniker, Snowy S**tbill. But I learned from some of our bird experts and monitors aboard the Ocean Endeavour that their own poop, containing matter from possibly many different penguin colonies, is prized in helping track the devastating Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza.

These two beautiful birds were sat atop Damoy Hut on a very snowy day and I loved how they faded into the surrounding white out.

Those days when your sat at lunch, and you hear wh

Those days when your sat at lunch, and you hear whoops and cheers coming from the starboard side of the restaurant. The excited chatter and squeal from guests calling out "Whales!".

This became more and more common aboard the Ocean Endeavour as we approached and cruised Antarctica. On this occasion we had two humpback whales alongside as we motored towards the Peninsula. Of course, lunch was left as I ran up to the deck to try to capture the moment, with one giving us a couple of playful breaches before they dove, never to be seen again.

It's hard not to anthropomorphize the Gentoo Pengu

It's hard not to anthropomorphize the Gentoo Penguins. The characters on show always leave you asking what the conversations would be like. Like these two males, atop a rocky mound covered in females nesting, almost like they were meeting on a morning stroll or at the railway station on the way to work. Would it be "G'Day!", or "Good Morning!" In my head there is a voiceover by John Cleese.
